I know this is not a Bus Forum but I was wondering if anyone knows why all new buses now come with a 'Buses' logo on both sides of them? I've also noticed this logo appear on a Dennis Trident.

I've noticed this over the last few weeks and wondered about it as well. Is it all new deliveries, to all operators?

It appears that way, it has appeared on all the new Stagecoach Enviro 200's & 400's and the new First E400's & Gemini 2's. I've only noticed one Stagecoach Dennis Trident with it (not a new delivery).

Do you mean 'buses' in a roundel? If so it's a good move, but they did this in the 80s i think... but without the word buses. I hope it's replaced the operating company logo - I live in hope.

I've read a rumor that the current London Central/General and Metroline liveries are getting the turf and buses are being forced to all-red, alongside that.
Going up the M40 I think it was on Friday, I saw some brand new Enviro400s headed down this way, all-red, roundel on side. Can't remember what operator they were for but they even had the route and destination up on the blinds!
Aliturk; they don't have BUSES written inside. Just a plain white roundel on the red paintwork, on the sides.

It amuses me that some London buses now have the RATP logo on them, now that RATP owns (or part-owns) one of the bus operators.

It's appearing on the new bus shelters too.

I nioticed the "buses" logo today - on some of the new bendy-replacements on the 25. I suppose it's to show which part of TfL they are operating for - after all, without it you might think that big double-decked vehicle going along Cheapside is opearted by LU or LO!

Interesting that it does actually seem to say buses inside that roundel; never noticed that, even seen it in person...

Glad that the roundel is making a return to the buses. Almost back to the 70's / early 80's livery now - all red with white LT roundel, We've come a long way since tendering began, with all those vile colours! I never could get used to Routemasters in Kentish Bus livery on route 19!

Wonder if any RATP or NEDrail services carry the TFL logo?

"Almost back to the 70's / early 80's livery now" - Yes by far the worst and most boring ever used by LT/LTE/LTB/LRT or any of the PTEs.

It's never been the same since they binned "London Transport" from the buses and tube.

I think London General/Central are the only operator that are still putting their grey skirt vinyl on their refurbished and new buses (like the recently refurbished Volvo's at Bexleyheath on the 401). I think its quite a good idea to have the roundel on the buses myself, have only seen the Spirit of London bus with it so far though.

The REAL retro-move that would benefit pax is to bring back 'via' points on the displays rather than the ridiculous "politically correct" situation we have at present.

I quite like the plain white roundel I wish they had put that on the RT's back in the 70s. They did for Routemasters, RFs, and even the dreaded Swifts--why not the RTs?

If I recall correctly there was a very mixed approach to the application of roundels on LT trains too. Most CP/COs seemed to get them at the end of their lives, whereas 56/59/60/62's did not. I would assume it was too difficult to remove the lettering without leaving obvious scaring on the plain/bare ali panels.
For silver trains a special red variation of the London Transport lettered logo was used. Equally SMS's etc had a red version of the London Transport lettered logo as this was fitted onto a Grey cantrail.
I have no idea why the RT's were never fitted, but London Country did apply corporate liveries to five RTs at Chelsham.
Anyway the Roundel is making a reappearance on Londons Buses. Leon Daniels (Managing Director Surface Transport) is of the opinion that as most of LUL, bus stops and publicity features the roundel in some shape or form, so should the buses.
New deliveries will have the roundel fitted in the factory and as buses come up for repaint, then they too will be fitted.
With the exception of minor vehicle details all buses will now be delivered 100% red.

As with most things LT it was more complicated than that.
Yes red buses and trains both had "LONDON TRANSPORT in gold. Unpainted trains had a red version, initially in a darker red, similar to the bus red version used on RFWs and private hire RFs.
When the buses moved to a red "LONDON TRANSPORT" (e.g. MB/SM families) in the 1960s, the trains actually used "UNDERGROUND" in red (as on the 67TS/72TS/C Stock). Buses also used the block "LONDON TRANSPORT" in gold on RT, RF and RM-family vehicles but on the rail side, these only appeared on maroon battery locos.
The 1970s plain white roundel was retro-fitted to repainted red trains, which were diminishing in number by then, and was applied to new/overhauled/repainted buses. New unpainted trains had the plain red roundel (73TS/D Stock/83 Stock).
The red/yellow LBL roundel came out in the 1980s and its rail equivalent is the red/blue LUL roundel in use today. This was retro-fitted to some unrefurbished rolling stock in entirety (e.g. D Stock), whilst other classes only had piecemeal application (e.g. A Stock, 59TS).

Pardon my drift, but does anyone know when Metroline plan to replace those awfully noisy double deck Volvo buses on Route 260 and occasionally on the 266? The engine begins "roaring" without warning and once it starts, it doesn't stop. Very annoying when they pass by around 6AM on a Sunday morning.

I have seen pictures of 59 stock on the northern with the LUL logo just stuck on top of the LT lettering without any attempt at trying to remove it!

That can be extended to June 2017. 266 is contracted to May 2012.
