In August, Bank Branch will be closed on some weekends.
Why is it?

Both directions? Seems a missed oppertunity. Last time there was serious work on the Bank branch it was done per direction to lessen the inconvenience. When TBTC work starts on the west end branch could this be considered?

I don't see the advantage of that. It is better to have 3 closures in both directions than 6 closures in one direction.

I don't see the advantage of that. It is better to have 3 closures in both directions than 6 closures in one direction. But unidirectional closures allow all the stations to be kept open, so you can, for instance, still go from Angel to Borough, albeit you would need to change at Euston and Kennington to do so.

Where I would worry about more is whether the severely reduced service is enough to handle the demand for it. If, for sake of argument, you can only reasonably expect to fit 30tph through one of the central branches in one direction, then you're most likely looking at 15tph on each branch in the direction where both branches are open. Is half the maximum capacity of a branch really enough to keep stations and trains from becoming dangerously overcrowded when you're trying not only to fit the normal traffic on that branch but the people whose best alternate route involves taking the unidirectional service and changing?

Last weekend they managed to keep a 2min service running on the Bank section and it seemed to cope well with 4mins on the Northern branches. However when they lower the service by Highgate it was very busy indeed. Think it was a 6min service and it struggled to cope.

In was a 3 min on the Bank Branch and 6 mins on the Northen Branchs last weekend not 2/4. That's not the experience I've had of the Northern that weekend. The Northern doesn't tend to keep to its pattern very well. Quite often see the trains on the High Barnet line bunch up so you get 6-8min gaps off peak. As I use the line at least twice a day, I'm actually speaking from experience than the WTT.
