On another forum (where a few regulars here also frequent) the following question has arisen: A question has come up here (L.A.) with regard to this. Idea is to heat up a section of rail to help with adhesion during the early morning hours. We believe something like this may have been done at Bank on the DLR. Anyone got any info on this? If anyone has any information the gentleman concerned would be very grateful.

From what I recall, the slope going down towards the Bank Tunnels have what can be described as very long point heater strips clipped into the web of the rail. This seems to keep the rails warm enough to stop the most slippery conditions occuring. Not sure if they are still there now or still work, as that was many years ago. DLR trains seem to be able to stop on those slopes too and pull off in all conditions.
I am sure it is not just DLR that have this? Is it Graybar that make these heater strips for points?
