I guess they probably took a step back and had a look at them all, compared them to shots from say 2000 and went "These have gone down hill, alot" Then started this cleaning/red fronting!

I think the ends are being 'improved'. Note also on the photo that the outer home signal has been identified as a frequently SPAD'ed signal with the blue and white around the edge of the signal backing plate!
