I was watching a repeat of The Lost World of Mitchell and Kenyon last night and was thinking what life would be like in 100 years and whether footage of the modern day underground would be shown on TV, and the looks and attitudes of staff and passengers analysed by future generations. The trains maybe different by that time and todays best look old and unworthy. It is fascinating to watch the people go about their daily lives 100 years ago and i think that when we think we have dull and boring lives, that we in fact histroy in the making.
Maybe the original posts on this forum will appear as a source, looking first hand at the railwaymen of the day.
Who knows what the future may bring.........................(any ideas!)

I can't imagine an underground 100 years from now - no doubt it will still be one of London's main transport means, but look at the original Yerkes lines that opened around a century ago, and compare them with the JLE. I bet in 1906 they never predicted platform edge doors, OPO and digital voices telling us what the next station was, so it's hard to imagine the future on the network in the long term.
As for staff attitudes never mind the last 100 years, I think over the last 25 they are radically different - on another thread Q8 says about a man urinating in a tunnel and that the man got his nose broken and no action was taken - would that happen now?

I predict it to be dirty -- very very dirty.
I think that the Y tunnels built in the eayl 20th century will be well on their way to collapsing/collapsed. Maybe the trains might act as a hovercraft as it hovers through and not on rails...as for the District I'd see it going the way of Mainline railways

I also had a notion of hovering trains. Not hovering as in super future stuff but as in scientifically sound stuff. e.g. postive magnets on the 'tracks' and negative magnets on the bottom of the trains. Have a strong enough magnets and they should repel, meaning the train can hover. This reduces the amount of energy lost through friction, heat and sound and that energy can be used as kinetic energy, thus moving the train quicker. Actually, i think the princepal has been done.
Now if we convert the energy of the wind created by the movement of the train and convert that into electrical energy which would power the train, LU could save lots on bills and in 100 years fossil fuels will non-exsistent so alternitive energy will have to be sought.

The Circles - though running with flashy new hover trains - will have 3 hours to go round and will still lose time. But they will still get in front of the District at Aldgate In fact I think the service pattern at Aldgate will remain unchanged just to allow the staff (or droids as they will no doubt be) something to moan about. The droids will be programmed with all the current staffing characteristics. The steady, hard to immitate walk from one end of the train to another which always takes just over the 4 minutes. The droid which passes no service information causing other droids to have wrong signals off. And of course a droid which functions so much better when given generous cartons of a dark brown liquid named after a north-west european area. (Of course it will still be around. In fact, within a few years, some of our constant reference to this product on this forum will brainwash you all into drinking it and it will become the only tea you can buy ;D)

The only tea worth buying whatever the year! In answer to your new signature, get a job selling Yorkshire tea on a commission basis- you should earn a fortune!

Never thought of that................. Don't think they do franchises I could earn a bob or two, but then again, the sweet flavoursome tea is sold in all good supermarkets for the low low price of £1.66 (or there abouts) I updated my site which I think should earn me commission. www.freewebs.com/yorkshire_tea
