Ahh, my theory was correct. Thank you I'm not entirely sure what happened to them after that. They were in service on the Northern for a while, but I don't think they stayed on the line until the rest of the 72's were withdrawn in 1997 - 1998. Maybe that were transferred to the Bakerloo when the Mk II's were being refurbished around 1993.

There are black Ventilator switches on some ex-MKI units, were these from some sort of Northern themed refurb? You can see the grab poles have been roughly painted brown on these units as you can see brush strokes with black underneath the brown coat. Which units are these?

I'll try to have a look through my back issues of Underground News, if I can get up on top of my wardrobe!

It was indeed related in an edition of UN that the last train of 72mk1 stock refurbished on the northern line was transfered to the bakerloo upon the northern changing fleets. Couldn't hazzard the edition number though, merely remamber reading it as a picture caption.

You can clearly see its Northern themed, they have grey themed flooring, patchy gloss brown paint on the handrails, some black ventilator switches are still around and the board that goes between the transverse seats which usually has brown patterns on it have black patterns

The exception is 3266, which is of course made up from cars salvaged from 2 separate collision-damaged units. You won't find any Northern Line features on cars 3366/4366 as these are ex MkII stock. The other units transferred from the Northern are 3264/3564, however this train was transferred before refurbishment, therefore was refurbished in Bakerloo style.

There are a few middle 33XX motors with set number holders on the M doors.
Units 3203+3501 were out of serivce damaged or being used for spares. They were converted to OPO and were used as cover for each train being refurbished (a similar thing happened on the Met).

If I had my way, they'd all be retro fitted with their as built interiors and revert to aluminium unpainted exteriors.

I really like the wooden floors, the uncovered bulbs, the armrests and the grab handles.

Although I am also a great fan of the tickford/rosyth dockyard refurbishment, as I may have said before.

The mkIIs would have the red doors, yes.

To be honest, I think LU have already wasted money on the refurbishment of the D stock as they are due to be replaced in a very few short years.
I've also seen some of the refurbished 92's are pretty bad already.
As mentioned in other posts, money is tight, so why should LU waste more money on trains that aren't gonna be around for very much longer?
A few trains I have been on have been clean and in good condition, and others have looked dreadful.

I have seen vinyl blue skirting applied to a few damaged cars of 1972 stock. I dont think the 72's are looking all that bad, just a few scruffy finishes here and there. (you can tell its vinyl because its slightly darker and not glossy when compared to the usual finish)
In contrast, have you seen some of the C stock recently? I saw one pull up at ECT earlier in a right state, I wish I had taken a picture of it. It looked like it had just been involved in a rave! They are actually starting to look as scruffy as they did pre-refurb. Yes these cars dont have long left but they will be here for the olympics. The 20 or so years of graffiti attacks and chemical is washes is really showing now.

I travelled from Willesden Junction to Queens Park today (my first time on the Bakerloo for a long time) and was surprised how good the condition of the 1972 stock was too! But then again it doesn't tend to have the loadings that most lines have.

I just think all these refurbishments are going to be a waste of time anyway, with the way youths are. You can issue fines or prison sentences for vandalism but it won't stop them.
