During my last few months (winter 2010) with Tube Lines I was commuting home one weekend morning via a replacement bus to Hammersmith from Northfields then onwards Eastbound by train.
I was a bit surprised that my Eastbound Piccadilly train left the Westbound Piccadilly platform to Barons Court Eastbound via the siding east of Hammersmith.
When were sidings like this upgraded for passenger use?

This one has always been a passenger move as it has colour light signals, it's just like a really long crossover that can also be used as a siding, Euston has a similar layout though only facing not trailing, can also be used to access the Piccadilly line eastbound.

WD11 & WD13 Hammersmith WBF via siding to Baron's Court EBF and Baron's Court WBF to Hammersmith EBF is WD35 route 2 and WD30A route 2 IIRC. Mind you I haven't worked at Hammersmith IMR for 8 or 9 years and haven't worked on the signalman desk since 2004 so I could be wrong. The memory is not what is was.

When were sidings like this upgraded for passenger use? In this particular case for sure in c.1965 when the programme machines went in failing that probably around 1933. I'd need to check in my signalling notices to eliminate the earlier date; but I'm 350 miles away.
