I'm looking to get back onto the 1960 project again. Something I've often wondered, which cars carried compressors in a 4 car set using 1927/31 trailers? Were the trailers provided with compressors or did each Cravens car have one?
When the 1938 trailer was added, what happened to its compressors? If the DMs didn't have compressors, was the 1938 car selected from the Northern Line where some had 2 compressors?

I am sure the 1927/31 trailers had one each.
The 1938 trailers had two, but I'm fairly certain that the two-compressor trailers were reduced to one as a result of the Acton Strike in 1969-70. That being the case, an extra compressor would have been (re)fitted on conversion to work with 1960 Tube Stock.
The driving motor cars had the Motor Generator, trailers compressors.

Thank you. I would have expected the extra compressor to be removed, especially as uncoupling was long gone by then, and at that stage loads of trains were being cancelled due to defective compressors - not helped by strikes!

Indeed - I remember 30+ cancellations per peak on the Northern at that time and also during the Guards' shortage 1973-74-ish. Iam sure I have written this before but the Bakerloo went down from 47 trains to 32 in the emergency timetables (E60 and E61) and one PM peak some 15 of those were cancelled. And there were some 6's instead of 7's as well!
Re-uncoupling, that was finally abandoned on the Bakerloo and Northern in March 1961 (Picc and Central 'officially' in March 1960). However, the 54 two-compressor trailers (all of which were then on the Northern)remained as such until the problems started. I do remember a small number remaining until the early-1970s (they had a 'C' under the car number).

I would assume the Bakerloo would have abandoned its service to Watford and reduced the service to Stanmore when limited for stock. Perhaps many of the Stanmore trains could have been worked to Willesden Green only. Would the Met have been able to stop at Willesden/Neasden to help out one wonders?
Perhaps in the medium term could some A stock could have been diverted to Stanmore to cover? The route knowledge and loading gauge may have been a problem!

I worked on the Met at this time and I never heard of A Stock going to Stanmore.

The only time that A Stock operated to Stanmore around that time was in the winter de-icing seasons in non-traffic hours - and empty, of course. I am sure reversing at Stanmore was restricted to reversing in platform 1.

The restriction was against platform 1 I think; at least it was later. It had a tube stock height arrestor in it or something...?
