Going through and alighting at Edgware Road today, they are doing stuff to the sidings and the bridge to the Marylebone Road entrance. Been going on for a while, but what is it for???

Crossrail? It isn't stopping at Edgware Road though. I am very confused.

Are the S stocks more 'leccy devouring than the C stocks then?
I thought it would be new plats for the Circle terminating there.

S stocks are far more such. In fact once all the old trains are gone the line voltage is to be boosted to 750v!
All motored axles, and air con = lots of juice. At least they have regen braking.

I think it may have to do with a power substation I recall seeing news about a few months back. Westminster Council was going back and forth on a planning permission document for just such a power substation and it was to do with the S7 upgrade.

Aren't parts of some lines shared by tube stock and 'big' stock? if so, will the tube stocks be able to handle 750 volts? (I'm thinking specifically of the pic/district sections West of Hammersmith where occasionally one of the green or the blue has to go over to the other metals)

The voltage has come up many times before. Was the consensus that its roughly 750volts then?

Yes, the 378s run from 750v DC so I guess that is the case.

They certainly don't run like they are on 750v up that way!

Won't the Piccadilly's trains tend to run fast on increased voltage?, after all they still use traditional DC motors....

Are the S stocks more 'leccy devouring than the C stocks then? I thought it would be new plats for the Circle terminating there. Yes, I've always wondered how they manage to shove so many trains through those 4 platforms. If it was down to me, the platform arrangements would be as follows: Platform 1 - District Line trains to Wimbledon (terminating platform) Platform 2 - Shared platform, District and Circle lines (terminating platform) Platform 3 - Circle Line trains via High Street Kensington and Victoria (terminating platform) Platform 4 - Circle/Hammersmith & City Line trains to Hammersmith Platform 5 - Hammersmith & City Line trains to Barking Platform 6 - Circle Line trains via Baker Street and King's Cross St. Pancras

You *could* get away with 5 platforms by turning platforms 5 and 6 into one, as you wouldn't get a train being 'overtaken' coming from Hammersmith to Baker Street... and if so, there's the platform 2. Of course, this assumes that you could leave from all platforms in both directions!

There's not enough of a service to need two platforms there going EB (towards Aldgate East and Tower Hill)!

I wasn't thinking about trains overtaking others, I was just thinking about freeing up some platform space so that during the busy rush hour, station dwell times could be increased and leaving an emergency spare platform should anything go wrong.
I mean, Edgware Road closely follows Queen Park in the location where most signal failures occur.
