It's one of those mild weekends. Just closures on the Central line and Northern line. Do LUL do these occasional mild weeks to give the pax some respite or is there some operational reason?
I saw some work under the bridge at South Ruislip station over Long Drive. It caused hell with the traffic. Is that Central line work or Chiltern work?
I presume the Northern line closure is to do to with TCR. What exactly are they doing?

According to the "Tube Upgrade Plan" section of the TFL website, the Northern line's closed because: This weekend work's starting on the Northern line platforms at Tottenham Court Road, to create a better, brighter station.
It means closing the line this weekend between Charing Cross and Camden Town, to move in major engineering equipment.(From here: www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/projectsandschemes/18091.aspx) I'm only theorising, but I'm wondering if part of the 'major engineering equipment' will be a platform shield, given the length/type of closure...

I cycle under the South Ruislip bridge everyday on the paperround and it seems the work is to the bridge itself, and doesnt look like it has anything to do with the railway above. But then I could be wrong and it could be to with the Northold Junction remodelling. I realy havnt a clue!

The Northern Line is indeed to do with Tottenham Court Road.
The Central Line has a number of things on-going, especially points replacement at White City (the west siding I think), hence nothing west of Marble Arch. And the work at South Ruislip is mostly Chiltern, in providing a new 'down' fast line for non-stopping services, to avoid them using the slower speed current 'down' route when passing under the "Paddington" line.
So a double whammy for West and South Ruislip this weekend. At least LU provided replacement buses along most of the line of route.
And maybe Chiltern did provide replacement buses too, but on my way home at about 18.00 last night by the pump in Ickenham village, I was asked by a stranger how to get to Hillingdon. He really wanted to get to High Wycombe and was told at West Ruislip to go to Hillingdon and catch a replacement bus.
But, when at West Ruislip, how does the bemused punter get to Hillingdon - U1/U10 bus down to Ickenham village then walk to Ickenham station, then Met/Picc to Hillingdon. Or walk 15 mins West Ruislip to Ickenham station. Or walk all the way to Hillingdon, which this chap was expecting to do, being unfamiliar with the area.
Apologies, this has turned into a bit of a rant ....

I think when Chiltern have done that in the past, they've offered a shuttle minibus between the two...

That's interesting. It certainly wasn't offered to our poor bloke yesterday.

Who told him to go to Hillingdon is the question... Could have not been a member of staff, just some random person trying to be helpful (or not!).

Chiltern do usually run an un-advertised shuttle between Hillingdon & WRU, when the main replacement buses go to Hillingdon. Confirmed to me by a CR manager.

The Western side of the Central line is getting closed a lot lately. Is this more of the same?
The Circle line is back to its old self this weekend, but the H&C line is still running. Are they doing anything on the Hammersmith branch this weekend?

Could be that trains can't get from the depot at the east end of the line, so there aren't enough to run the new Circle line service

The Western side of the Central line is getting closed a lot lately. Is this more of the same? This weekend there's welding, testing and recommissioning White City at least, as well as track renewal at West Acton. Not sure about anywhere else west of Marble Arch though.
