I've just been sent this, don't know why, but I'm glad I found it in my in-box. Would you like to see it? I'd guess this was taken around 1960......and it still looks the same today........... tinypic.com/r/2zdvdz4/7

Epping - 3-car Standard deputising for the 1935 Exp Stock on the Epping-Ongar shuttle. The DM nearest the camera is a 1928 Feltham (UCC).

Yes, have to agree. Looks like the early 60s when the Ongar shuttle was still run by Standard Stock. Looks like a 4 car train with a 1927 motor in the picture. It could either be a 1959 stock train if very early or a 1962 train.

What is with Standard Tube stock that just makes me smile when I see a picture of it? Fantastic! Thanks for sharing it.

From my records, Pre-1938 Stock on the Epping - Ongar was always 3-cars. 3-cars were also operated between Hainault and Woodford , so if these trains interworked or were changed over, then the formation would still be 3-cars. (4-car operation between Hainault and Woodford was withdrawn in favour of 3-car from WTT No.11 of 3/11/52).
Four cars Epping - Ongar came when the 1960 and then the 1962 Stocks worked the service.
The various photos I have of the Epping - Ongar service using Standard Stock always were 3-cars (at Epping, North Weald, Blake Hall and leaving Ongar) and were always the 1927-29 group of cars. I am not aware of the 1923-26 type ever being used - unless you know different ...... ?

The cheap Spanish whiskey has enlivened me [1] - and from what I can find in the WTTs (without disturbing AI) this would hold true (as I expected it would!) - I wonder if we're looking at the last season of 'standard stock' on the shuttle? FWIW I reckon it was taken in late March/early April - although there is very little to confirm that it wasn't taken in mid-October. 91 would indicate that it is an Ongar shuttle BTW. Afternoon (post-Loughton changeover, from memory of WTTs). [1] have been very unwell since Thursday.

A close look at the picture (slide) through the magnifying glass shows that it definitely a three-car and the middle trailer is 1927 MCCW. The overhaul date of the 1928 Feltham DM nearest the camera is (something) 1960 - can't quite make out the month. Hope you're better M - too much Northern Heights gricing?
