It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Dave Maloney, known to us all as "District Dave" and the first founder of this site, passed away peacefully at his home this morning following several months illness.
As members of Dave's "internet family" we are all deeply saddened by his passing and we are sending condolences to his wife and family.
The Forum Adminstrators have been in touch with Dave's family and they are aware of this thread which we'd like you all to treat as a book of condolence for Dave.

I'm saddened to hear the news.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Dave, I'm sure you'll agree that The World has lost a thoroughly nice man.
My thoughts are with Dave's family.
RIP Dave.

It was through Dave's original trainweb website that I was inspired to apply for the job of train driver - had I known how boring it be....!! ;D - anyway that was always the thing I found with Dave, he had this natural ability to inspire others (not that he seemed to know it himself) and it is one of the many qualities that made him a good instructor operator.
Dave will be sadly missed but he has left a lasting legacy with this, his forum. Even to this day he was always surprised at how it managed to get past 50 members - see, he just didn't appreciate how he inspired others to join & contribute!!
Well it's time to put your feet up and have a rest now Dave...

Sad news indeed, having worked with him for several years I can wholeheartedly agree that he was a true gent. This forum will indeed be part of his legacy, along with the many drivers he has trained over the years.

Dave was one of the genuine good guys - not an ounce of malice in him anywhere.

Dave's persona on the forum was the same as meeting him in person... kind and thoughtful with a keen sense of fair play.
Rest in peace Sir... you'll be sadly missed by many many people.

This is very sad news.
Dave and I were working on several projects for the District Line at London Underground whilst he was off driving duties and I shall press to ensure his plans are followed through.
He was hopefull of returning to driving and instructing duties soon, which he enjoyed greatly.
His train may have terminated, but his legacy shall do many more rounders.
RIP Dave.

This is very sad news for all who knew him, including those like me who only had the pleasure of meeting him for a short while. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
The best people leave this world with great legacies. Dave has done this not only through the many people who he has directly helped though his work as an instructor operator, but also through the setting up of this place. I hope that his name remains atop this forum as a long-lasting legacy to the great man.

This is very sad news. All of us who use this site must feel a sense of loss even though most us never actually met him. I only met him very briefly once at the Acton Depot meet last year. A smile and a handshake. That was all. Even so it was nice to shake the hand of the man who began this site without which I wouldn't have met so many great people and from which I have learnt so much about LT and its history. My sincerest condolences go to all of his family and friends. Like Chris, I hope that the name of District Dave continues at the head of this site as it would indeed be a fitting tribute.

I sadly never met Dave, but from what I've heard he sounds like such a nice, kindhearted man who inspired and empathised with us all.
Thank you Dave for this amazing area where we can socialise and discuss such an interesting topic.
Thank you Dave, and my sincere condolonces with your family.

Very sad news. I met Dave on the last unrefurbished D stock run, and was lucky enough to shake his hand at the end. Just meeting him once was enough to make me realise what a nice bloke he was. Deepest condolences to his family. RIP Dave.
