Does anybody know what the top speed of the C stock is i guess 45mph but not sure can anybody help? Thanks

"officially" they are 'limited' to 40mph which is done by the use of a red sticker on the Operators console.

But between Barking and South Kensington - especially when they're in front of me - they usually manage 25mph! Probably get a nosebleed if they go any faster....

S2S suggests that it theoretically is 60mph, the LT117 motors running at 3,800 rpm at that speed with a 94/14 gear ratio and 36 inch wheels.
What kind of speeds did they achieve in the 70s when they covered up to Amersham?

Did they ever get over 50mph when they had to ride up to Amersham in the mid-70s to cover for their older brethren?

If they had a weak field flag I don't see why they couldn't have done. Again, with much screaming of the LT117s! In the orignial seating formation it would have been a reasonable journey barring the suspension although Met users would be used to it! Where's that photo of the C69 with Amersham in the front window....

The C77 batch have a 'high speed rheo brake lockout' that stopped the rheo brake working at speeds above about 53mph. The C69 batch didn't have that. Service experience perhaps?

I have observed one reach 55mph (with the flag up on a working unit).

Excuse my ignorance but what is a Weak Field Flag? Weak Field is where on a DC series wound motor the field winding current is reduced and allows the motor to spin faster. The flag switch is quite simply a switch for the purpose of changing this setting, but one rather visible in the cab window when in operation!
