I came across this advert recently. My question is - how many (how few?) 59ts on the Northern ended up in this refurbished livery and for how long? I don't remember seeing many......(any?) BTW this thread will be moved to 'historical' once the initial replies have been posted

I do recall reading on a past thread that it was just the one unit that was given the paint treatment.

As well as external painting, the train received a light internal refurbishment. The end result was quite smart, though this didn't stop this train being withdrawn relatively early.

I'd like to see photos too. I understand the 'light' refurb consisted of cream and grey internally and the new red seat covers that the 72s were getting. The interiori got dirty quickly.

Refurb would perhaps give the wrong idea. I'm fairly certain is was just a repaint and retrim.

I remember travelling on this repainted 59 stock train one evening in 1992 from Mornington Crescent to Totteridge & Whetstone.

Good grief, I think I have that picture as a postcard. I didn't realise you took it! Classic image that.

I don't ever recall seeing one either, but doesn't it make the unit look so much younger!
Does anyone know when the livery was added (rough date)

Thanks for that. It also explains why I hadn't ever seen it.

I believe they revarnished the wooden floor too.
