spotted some yellow rectangular devices in the 'pit' with Sigs Asset KNGSX CV1101 etc written on the top... I guess this is for the VLU project?

One of out signaling counterparts will be able to answer this more accurately, but my "operational" understanding is that they are Absolute Position References (APRs). They are part of the DTG-R signaling system. The 09 stock will use these in conjunction with Doppler radar and tacho-generators (counts wheel revolutions) to determine exactly where the train is in relation to the limit of movement authority (LMA) which is granted by the signaling system via a radio signal (the "R" bit of DTG-R). These same yellow boxes will also be used on the SSR upgrade. ttr

they are being put everywhere but until westinghouse can get the system working (DTG-R) those APR's will only be used at CSDE (correct side door enable)
