allan60 Yes it did, formed of 5224 + 5070 I believe train 717 (the scrap train) is driven by test train operators who drive all sorts of rolling stock around the network on special trains etc I'm not dismissing that post as silly or needing a reality check, some people are sentimental over different things. People cry when the football team they support loses a game, that is just 11 + a couple of reserves running round a field for 90 or so mins at a time getting paid far too much.

I understand what you're getting at Onion but let's be honest, this in no way compares to anything really bad does it? To exhibit a similar emotional reaction to a family bereavement due to the scrapping of a train leads me to wonder how anybody affected this badly could possibly manage with a loss that's actually serious.
I really do think its worth stepping back and reminding ourselves once again its only a train being taken away for scrap, having become obselete. It's not a murder. These things happen and have always happened since railways have been in existance.
I too hope charleyfarley's post was tongue in cheek regarding the possible emotional damage to the drivers involved in the Northwood sidings moves. If it weren't we're left with the implication that some sort of therapy would be in order for the drivers of these trains. Thankfully I'm confident their professionalism would make such provisions utterly pointless.

As it happens my 2 year old daughter was killed by a drunk driver just before Christmas 1980 when he lost control of his car and it came up onto the pavement and smashed into the buggy. However, I believe that a family tragedy has no place on a transport forum and so I genuinely consider Brian A60K's outburst rather inappropriate, although I do obviously sympathize with the experience he outlined. I cried when Ella Fitzgerald died even though I had obviously never met her. I was emotionally stunned at the news of Princess Diana's death. I felt like crying at JFK at the end of a three month stay in Brooklyn NY visiting someone very special whom I knew I would not see again for some time. At no point in my post did I compare or attempt to compare a TO's possible sentimental attachment to a symbol of his profession going for scrap to any other form of emotion or more specifically to any other form of sadness. I remain amazed by the response. If I offended anyone then I heartily and sincerely apologize.

I am sorry to hear of your loss Charley and would also like to say that I meant no offence to you or anybody else for that matter, it's just that I find the emotive language used in some of these posts very difficult to understand. I suppose we all have differing thresholds and mine happens to be towards the colder end of the spectrum.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that because the operational cabs on single-enders no longer have the necessary connections to be formed in the middle of a train. (Because in practice they never would be). In the same way the double-enders on D and 1973 stock have autocouplers and the projections for holding the inter-car barriers on the cab fronts, but the single enders do not. Also, the difference between the cab ends on 3car and 4car 1972 stock - no autocoupler on the single ender 3 cars Correct. There is an autocoupler on the 3 car DM but it is a mechanical version only. The next scrap move will be 9/5/12. Any idea which units will be involved?

It is. I was on 5092 the other day. So the first double ended de-icer goes - it really is coming to the end

This moves the 504x series from endangered to extinct. The also takes the 508x series from relatively safe to extinct. 516x series downgraded to being endangered. So series' 500x, 504x, 505x 507x, 508x, 514x, 515x, 517x, 519x, and 522x gone. With 503x, 513x, 516x, 520x, 521x, and technically 523x as endangered. The irony, 5169 was the fourth refurbished unit, yet is one of the last left...

Does that explain the slightly different interior draftscreen seals on 5168?

I assume so, that is one of the few units I've never been on. So I've never seen it...

5160 has a different J door too. Not the usual square UNDM type (original).

Had a couple of hours free today so thought I would go and spot the A-stock out on the Met. Got the Jubilee to Finchley Road where I changed for the Met, first train was an all stations Chesham formed of 5109+5100 which was packed with fans going to watch the footie at Wembley. Had a nice ride on this to Chesham and back to Northwick Park where I waited for train 447 which was formed of 8 carriages of A62 stock which I had noted earlier in the day. Rode 5134 to Croxley and waited for the same train back to Baker Street, so I could get what is probably my last photo of 5161, one of my favourites. Then rode in car 6161 to Baker to finish of my trip, had a very active compressor which will soon be no more www.flickr.com/photos/steve09photos/7146867039/in/photostream/ 5161 at Croxley Some other obs I made today on the Met are; 5016+5203 N WPS 5022+5113 N 424 5024+5119 S Rky Sidings showing 600 on both ends 5034+5231 N 444 5094+5103 N Rky Sidings 5096+5189 WPS 5100+5109 N 406 5122+5219 N 456. Sat in the fast SB platform at Wembley Park at roughly 15:15 5134+5161 S 447 Mainly S stock out on the Met today, made note of S stock operating the following 401, 402, 403, 405 21065, 412, 413, 414, 415, 425, 426, 427, 443, 21022 445, 450, 453 21067

The wikipedia page has reverted to claiming that the A Stock entered service in August '59 with 5004 and 5008. Bit of a curiosity, given that they were not going to be finished before 18 months after that date... So, I've gone to change it to being correct, (i.e. 12th June 1961).

Only 15 A stocks prepped for service this morning. If you are not a regular Met user and want a ride or photos, do it soon.

I'm travelling from Cornwall to Kent by train today and will go to Baker St around 20:00. Hope to have a run to Finchley and back as I did on Saturday with T447. I'm not a great tube fan but like the dying flames of civilisation.

I'm not a great tube fan but like the dying flames of civilisation. You should have the following formed of A stock tonight: Departures from Baker Street T453 1945 WF 5134/5160 T401 2000 WF 5090/5060 T443 2002 UX 5096/5188 T430 2008 WF 5102/5094 T431 back from Finchley Road 2034 5230/5094 Plus about 3 others not around at that time, most of the others will be finishing between 1900 & 2000. Today the off peak service has the following formed of A stock: 1 Amersham 1 Chesham 3 Uxbridge-City 3 Watford/Uxbridge-Baker St The rest is all S stock. Plus 7 should be out for tonights pm peak.

Thanks for the gen. Saw 5098/5105 going Chesham at 19:53, T471. Did T464 Uxbridge with 5060/5105( so not with 5090)? Then I took T401 with 5090 but did not get rear set to Wembley Park for 5180 to Preston Road. So what is with 5090?

I'm going to be doing around the Met for the Rickmansworth Festival on the 20th May. By people's knowledge and calculations how many A Stocks will be around? I want to get some photos and a few rides before its too late. Thanks in advance Also travelled Chesham to Baker Street today. 13:55 from Chesham was A Stock (numbers not noted). Got off at Moor Park and waited for next train hoping for an S Stock (like them better I'm afraid) but it was A Stock 5161

Many thanks Bentley for the gen.
