I came across this notice in a book recently and thought I would have a go at reproducing it to display on my Croxley WRD layout. Xerces Fobe

Yes that is where came from - I picked this book up om Monday night and it packed with really good info and photo's UNDM at Queens Park and tube stock at Watford West are my favorites. Not sure what the font was just found the nearest and used it. Xerces Fobe

Once you get the font right (which, if you don't have access to the right one, you can assemble by snipping and assembling letters from the tube map into a JPEG - long winded but worth it for accuracy), it should be fairly easy to print it out exactly to size in miniature, maybe with some clear tape stuck over it to represent glossy effect. My wife used to do this to represent a tiny thank-you letter from the Tooth Fairy when our kids lost their gnashers! God, that's soppy eh? ;D

All adds to the fun I access to a myriad of fonts in various apps I have access on my PC but as as it looks similar I think I can get away with it. The difficult bit was the roundell which I had to Photo-shopped to make it look OK! I never though a Tooth Fairy would appear on one of my posts but there you go ;D ;D Xerces Fobe

4mm/ft- EM-type scale, or OO? I've read about this. 4mm is about 1:76 although OO would appear to be similar but with inaccurate track gauging. I don't suppose it matters much although I can remember getting terribly anal about scale in the 1:48 pre-WWII US Navy biplane fighters and bombers I used to model to the point I'd carve something up to correct a millimetre rather than know it was wrong, even if it wasn't really apparent to anybody else! My wife can tell you the long-winded saga of the Whistlekiller Curtiss SBC-3 Helldiver (built 2002). Nearly led to matrimonial strife due to the engine cylinders being "a bit too big". Obviously, it was her fault........ ;D

I think the Weight is regular. Try using ITC Johnston Regular.

I think the Weight is regular. Try using ITC Johnston Regular. Bear in mind LT used a very thick (bold) closely-spaced version of New Johnston at this time on posters. Quite unattractive but not too long-lived.

Yes - looking at the photo 21146 is correct - it is indeed a very peculiar version of NJ with a very poorly kerned title.
What size are you going to reproduce the poster at Xercesfobe?

That really does seem too bold! Out of interest would the main text have been so bold aswell? Do you know whats causing the line spacing to be uneven, Xerces, or is it just how the picture is making it display? Interesting to note the capital 'L' for line, when did it become strictly miniscule?

Probably in the 90's when LU developed a phobia of capital letters

Thanks for all the feedback. This started as just a bit of fun to with the object of reproducing a real underground poster in A4 size to add interest to my Croxley WRD layout at shows.
However it has made me think that I should research this areas little more in an attempt to unearth some of the more unusual posters. So does anyone recall any unusual posters and maybe we collate them on this Forum as reference material?
