As the kit of these is available in O scale and immenent in OO scale it is time to ask another question. Did these cars just shuttle between Acton and Ealing on their own or did they ever tow a trailing load? Thanks in advance.

I have never seen any photographs of these towing. However they were built as battery locomotives so they must have been capable. I think that it was probably because they would have been required to have a brake van and the need to shunt that they never towed a train, also they were unable to operate away from the 4 rail system or if the power was off. Then again you could allways dust off your modellers licence. ;D

Acc to LPTB Rollong Stock 1933-1948 (Bradford Barton) they also went to Northfields. I guess with a bit of licence you could run them to Lillie Bridge.
You may need to apply for a new licence of you want to get them to Ruilsip, Neasden or Upminster!
(Same caption says they weren't scrapped until Jan1970, so plenty of scope to run them alongside all sorts)

It is possible that they traveled all over the surface lines. They would very rarely be used during normal hours but operated at night after operating hours.

An interesting paragraph with the picture, the impression given is that all wooden platforms (unless the comment was intended to be District line only) were being replaced with less flammable material. Liverpool Street Met line platforms were still timber into the 1970s (IR) and 1980s (OR) and surfaced with tarmac, it's OT here of course but worth the mention. One wonders just how good LT/TfL Museum documentation is!

That's the first picture of either one I have seen before the batteries were removed. I would imagine that the other one is at the other end of the train. Thanks.

You can just make out at the far end of the train what looks like the other loco, then again it could be a brake van with a similar roof profile.

Graeme Bruce. It also has a bit of information on their predecessors, basically 50 foot motorised flat cars with a wooden 'telephone box' at each end for the driver. These were not used for long as such because they lacked batteries. L8/9 lost their batteries about 1915 as replacements were not available, they were required for submarines.

There is a facility to comment on those pix and the LTM does sometimes correct errors.
