Hi all Firstly, a hello from me! My name's Damon, and I'm from Lincoln, and some of you may know me from elsewhere! Just a question that may prove un-answerable, but I have an incomplete list of all the announcements in the Class 378's system, and I was wondering if anyone could help me complete it? The [incomplete] list can be found in a word document here: lincstravel.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/lo-announcements.doc. Many Thanks Damon

I recognise where that list has been transcribed from Where you put the question mark next to C&L... I think I heard Denmark Hill which is slightly less ridiculous than Chalfont & Latimer... not exactly sure!

I can't get the formatting correct on here sorry, but the following is the list of what the driver can select. Anything else heard is automatic and not manually selectable by the driver. This list was one I made during my own training. This is the order and numbers from the system itself. What is written in CAPS is what is seen on the screen, lower caps next to it is what is heard. Numbers 33 to 63 I haven't had a chance to listen to fully.

44 TRAIN DELAYED BRIDGE STRIKE That isn't what I think it is, surley? Usually an HGV or something high striking an underbridge. The bridge has to be checked for displacement when that happens.

Last year a video was posted on youtube where the on board computer went into kerfoofoo mode and just played out every message one after the other.
Perhaps someone with a faster computer and better knowledge of youtube could find it again.

Where you have Chalfont and Latimer it's actually Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland.

Is it really necessary to have specific recorded announcements for so many possible eventualities? Just get the driver to do a manual announcement!
Option 343 - No service between Surrey Quays and New Cross due to alien landing . . . .

Is it really necessary to have specific recorded announcements for so many possible eventualities? Just get the driver to do a manual announcement! It must be a little difficult for the T/Op to locate all those codes; by the time they've found what they've wanted, it is too late! The benefit however is so that there is a supplementary visual message on the DMIs for those who have hearing impairments. Another benefit is the professional voice-over artist (in this case, Emma Hignett, best known for London buses) is generally clearer than having a T/Op do a manual announcement. An LU representative at the S Stock mock-up in Euston Square gardens told me that their aim is to provide as many automated messages as possible to reduce the amount of times the T/Op has to do a manual announcement. This can also be applied to the LO trains.
