I noticed recently at a few Northern Line stations 'boxes' on the side of the tunnel entrance wall with a white light (I think an electrical symbol lit up).
There is one at Euston Southbound Northern Line Charing X branch.
Are these new? I guessed they might have something to do with the traction current?

It's an electrical 'ziggy-zaggy' hazard symbol, which is bright white. It caught my eye because when you face the tunnel entrance I could see two lights - the signal, and the one on this funny black box attached to the side of the tunnel wall.
There is also one Southbound at Tufnell Park, and yellow clips/wires coming out of the current rails which I think might be connected to it?

I could be wildly wrong, but I'm sure I remember reading that new style CRIDS * which are hard wired are being tested on the network.
* CRID = Current Rail Indicating device aka Juice box. Tells staff if the traction current is one or not.

Not quite.... Put simpy....
Rail Gap Indicators provide an indication as to whether traction current in the section ahead is on or off. However, the 3 bulbs could fail and current could be off, but the RGI lit up. Likewise, sometimes due to a fault the RGI lights up, with the current still on.
CRIDs provide a positive indication to licensed staff that traction current is either on or off. Currently Protection Masters must see that the last timetabled/booked train/vehicle has gone through, then go onto the track and lay their CRID. The advantage of these "Remote" CRIDs are they will no longer have to go on to the track.
As to what these boxes on the walls are... I haven't got the foggiest as I havent seen these new CRID box thingys/

They are the new type of permanent CRIDS, we have a few on the Piccadilly, although I have only seen one in operation. That's at South Ken E/B, which is a surprise because it wasn't there on Wednesday, but was there and working on Saturday. The other ones are at the Sudburys, again on the E/B.

Also one at South Ken west now I was going to say exactly the same ;D ;D ;D ;D On the Picc line. Just to say that it is a very large silver box on the tunnel wall, with two cables to each Traction Current Rail. On the box there seem to be three light up visual indications. ON with a ! I am guessing that the other two are OFF and FAIL.

The last time these were mentioned in the TC they were not to be used as an indication current was off.

Unless you are a specifically trained person - in any case, they're not intended for use by us mere operational types.
Also, on the point of rail gap indicators - these are only found where there is a section gap (as the name suggests), and can be found in all sorts of places; so not much use if you intend to access the track in the middle of a traction current section. The new permanent CRID will be present at track access locations, so they'll be far more useful to their intended users.
