The brochure for the opening of the C&SLR noted that the platforms were to be "lighted by electricity, with gas in reserve". However, most accounts state that at opening the opposite was true, due to lack of capacity at Stockwell generating station.
Did this remained the situation until additional plant was installed at Stockwell at the end of 1892, or was the change to electric lighting made at a different time? There is a drawing of Stockwell island platform included in the opening brochure with lighting prominently suspended from the ceiling - are these the gas or electric lights?
Finally, was gas lighting ever used on any other tube platforms? I can't find any references, but it would be interesting to know.
