This has to be a Reggie Perrin type comment !
Services stopped round about 4.30pm today - neccesitating a 93 bus trip to Wimbledon.
Seems to have been sorted PDQ , though I am told they can be nasty birds to deal with.

I am told they can be nasty birds to deal with. Indeed, one got its leg caught on a pike lure I was retrieving across a lake surface a few years ago. I had to be extremely careful when I finally got it to the waters' edge to unhook and release it. Obviously, if I'd been Price Philip it'd have been dispatched and in the oven before you could say conservation.................

One time on one bus route I was driving, some swans got loose on one of the busier routes. Because of where they were in the road, only cars could get past, and gingerly at that. Before RSPCA and the Police got there, there were six buses stacked in a line unable to move!
Watching the authorities trying to move them was a sight, they had plastic fencing, police cordon tape and a good thirty people trying to round them up.

We had a similar problem at Kingston one morning, and I've seen footage of one on the M25. The problem is that they see a shiny surface and think it's water, but they can't take off except from water - if you've ever seen one taking off you'll realise why!

Was talking to the t/op on meal last eve who was first on the scene and apparently the bird was running down the four foot unable to reach V1 or V2. Luckily for our feathered friend, it was in the 10mph restriction for PBY, anywhere else and it would be on the canteen menu today. They taste like chicken apparently....

V1/VR no? It seems the swan didn't even get the opportunity for V2 to come into play

It walked along the track most of the way from Putney Bridge to Parsons Green before deciding to fly off. I guess it didn't want to wait for the RSPCA!
