Hi there. I was told there were trains running all night through earls court on saturday night... I told my colleuge it must have been an engineering/de-icer train but they seem to be adament it was a normal train and seem to think it was running all night to help with passenger movement because of the snow.
Just want to clear things up.
Am sure it was a de-icer. If it wasnt and was a train running service all night will it happen again?
If it was a de-icer train are they running them all night on the district everyday to insure if there was a snow/ice build up it would prevent any further delays?
Thank you.

There would be no passenger trains running through the night, scheduled or unscheduled. Even if they were, all the stations would be closed! I'm not sure if they still run additional de-icing trains through the night when the weather is severe. If they do, then normal stock would be used for this, as they are for normal booked de-icing duties.

Could it be trains that were out of position because of the weather being repositioned for the morning rush?

I'm pretty sure I've read before of trains being run on the Picc between Heathrow and Hammersmith during previous disruption, to get passengers near town such that they can catch Nightbuses.

Though I haven't had a chance to read the actual Service Report for the day I would suggest these would have been sleet trains.
On night duties these include the option for passenger stock trains fitted with deicer units to run during engineering hours for the purpose of laying deicer fluid (actualy more correctly ice prevention fluid) on the current rails and to clear existing build up of snow with the sleet brushes fitted to the trains.
So I would suggest that there were passenger stock trains running through the open sections but these would not have been in passenger service.

I've seen a pair of battery locos with a GP wagon on the Met a bit. Do there venture onto the District too? Is there just one set or are there several pairs?
