Hi all,
On Friday I was going from KXSP to Notting Hill Gate. At KXSP, I got on a Circle line train and was going to change at Edgware Road. Upon leaving Baker Street, the driver made a PA telling us that the train would be diverted and would become a District line train to Wimbledon. The driver also told us that the next train to Hammersmith would arrive in a couple of minutes on platform 3 at Edgware Road.
When we arrived at Edgware Road (platform 4), a Circle line train was at platform 2 going towards HSK and Victoria, which shortly after, departed. Then a minute later, a train arrived at platform 3 which was a train to Hammersmith.
I know that diversions like this are not unusual and do indeed occur. However I am confused as to why we were diverted to Wimbledon, when there was a train to Hammersmith from platform 3. However I am assuming the train that arrived at platform 3 was an ex-Wimbledon District line train.
Not really sure if it made any sense, but hopefully some of you will understand what I mean ;D
Thanks

No idea what really happened, but the Hammersmith train could have a non-critical failure, for instance a bit too many motors cut out, and sent to Hammersmith for a swap. To avoid empty stock movement, they ran it in service. (No idea if this is allowed, but I don't see why it shouldn't be)

It would either have had some sort of defect or been required back in Hammersmith depot for planned maintenance, hence the "stock & crew changeover" at Edgware Road to get it onto a path to Hammersmith.
