2 class 165s are currently stabled in Ricky main sidings. Something I never imagined I'd see!

Saw one in the sidings there one morning about a year ago - think it had been taken out of service at Ricky with a fault because the platform was heaving - wondered why, then saw the 165 in the south sidings!

Took a photo many years ago of a burnt-out old DMU which was stabled in Rickmansworth No.23 siding (the long siding, next to the NB, south of the station). It had all three liveries in the formation - blue, predominently white and blue and grey - and, of course, burnt out brown/black!.

I was on that morning, the train brakes had siezed on approach to ricky S/B, unfortunatly because of its postion on the track circuits we couldn't even reverse north to south from P1

If I remember correctly, there are 4 departmental Class 121s, a departmental class 122, the 3 car Class 117 Chiltern sandite, and the blue Chiltern Class 121 020 for the Risborough shuttle stabled at Aylesbury. 121020 turned 50 in September. The 117 and 121s were built by Pressed Steel while the 122s were built by Gloucester RC&W. I have also heard that Chiltern have acquired another Class 121 to operate the Risborough shuttle 121 034

Wow, someone actually choosing to run 50year old stock as a heritage feature. Who'd have thunk it. ;D

There was a jazz band, facepainting, a raffle and a ride on the 121 cost £1. Hopefully LU will do something for the A stock when it turns 50.

I have also heard that Chiltern have acquired another Class 121 to operate the Risborough shuttle 121 034 A few weeks ago I spotted a bubble car in Willesden depot. It was in blue and grey livery, with 'Wrexham and Shropshire' on the side. Unfortunately I didn't get its number, but I wonder whether this might be the additional unit that Chiltern are going to use?

Yours truly , with help from a Mr Doyle , organised
(a) a Bletchley green DMU on the Chesham Shuttle , ditto a class 205 off a Victoria - Watford Met crankex. (b) the Green 306 GE unit into Ricky Bay ("Steam on the Met" - ditto the Belgian RFD class 90 , 37057 "Viking" plus other BR stock on "Steam on the Met" exhibits. (c) 33109 to Chesham and Watford , plus the sidings.
None of this could be managed in todays privatised railway without vast expense. Then it was a case of "friends and phonecalls"

It still has the W&S branding from when it was route learning before W&S services started. When you saw it it was route learning for Chiltern drivers to take Chiltern stock to LOROL at Willesden to have the new GSMR radios fitted. The second bubble car for the Aylesbury branch services is (was?) at Tyseley being fettled up. Andy

Forgot also the 117 unit (2 cars - specially reduced from 3) , which went to Watford Met on an "officers and MP trip" (51400 , I have its blind box at home - RIP)

Are the 165s having these radios fitted at the moment? I could've sworn I saw a 165 at Willesden yesterday, but it was the briefest of glimpses as I left the high level station and you don't get an opportunity to double check. This would explain it...

Just to add to the OP, yesterday saw another 3-car (I believe 165, although the details handed to me were sketchy) stabled for a large part of the day in Ricky sidings. This occasion was also due to a braking problem.

This occasion was also due to a braking problem. Can throw a bit of light onto Saturdays action, due to numerous problems, the decision was taken to reverse two Chiltern line trains south to north at Rickmansworth via the sidings. The problems were namely a serious points problem at Harrow North Junction preventing ex main line trains heading south and also Amersham 34 road (where Chilterns reverse on a Sunday) was unavailable for use, again due to a points problem. Unfortunately still, the set of points to bring the units from the sidings and back on their way also failed, meaning they were in the south sidings for some time during Saturday afternoon. They got away eventually though

Are there any instances of a 165 taking a wrong stick, and ending up somewhere it should not on the met? In theory, how far could it go?

Not sure, never heard of it, seen the opposite apply.
The main problem could be at Watford South Jn or Harrow North Jn. I'd be interested to know too. I would imagine the train would have to reverse at either Northwood or Harrow.

I would imagine the train would have to reverse at either Northwood or Harrow. I remember reading that if a Chiltern train were to take a wrong stick at Watford North junction then it would call at Moor Park where the passengers would be detrained. It would then run to Northwood and reverse. If for any reason the Northwood siding was unavailable then a wrong direciton move would be used. The train would not be allowed to run to Harrow. It will be interesting to see what they do if the Northwood siding is removed.

The Northwood siding will be replaced by a crossover at Moor Park. I can understand not running to Harrow, there is too much to go wrong. Especially as a reversal via the siding would be in order and as the C stock is band from doing it, I expect NR stock maybe too!
