As is usual at this time of year, the quiz over the festive season will be slightly different.
After consulting with ChrisM I'm doing the quiz, which will run on the 23, 24 and 25th December. There will be a photograph and a cryptic clue each day.
The quiz proper will take a break from the 22nd until the New Year; all I ask is that there are no PMs sent - make all the guesswork a collective effort.
Good luck to all participants, and let's wait until the 23rd.... ;D

I hope that you find this one an entertaining challenge. There has been nothing hidden in any of the images. A bigger version is available hereA clue, slightly cryptic I'm afraid! No headache for the Iron Knight with the wolf city. Bonus points are available if you can decipher the clues. I shall keep a running total! I hope to post all three pictures aroundabout midnight, although the 25th December picture might be slightly late, as I've got to do a spot of bellringing!

The LHS looks to have been exposed to the elements...
As for the clue, knowing how your mind works and your verbosity, I haven't got the foggiest! Asprinmask Forest?

At first glance,it looks like the (repaired) door-jamb of a medieval stone building...
Question:Are the parameters the same as the daily quiz? Or might this be a photo of (say) the West Front of Chartres Cathedral?
Hard to say with confidence, but it looks like Portland or Caen stone for the jamb,a Purbeck marble column with clunch or rag (weathered) exterior facing. Unsurprisingly, this suggests the South-East of England...

Why not wait for the second part, which will come out aroundabout midnight/0100 this evening? ;D
I will add that only myself and AI know the actual answer; the normal quiz team can take part.

The second part - and the second clue. angelislington has suggested that I make the clues easier. As the quiz proper is taking a break until the new year I'll come up with an extra clue, but no further picture on 26th December, if no-one has yet got the location. A bigger version is available here. The second clue: natura mirante: give me Petroselinum and I will cure cramps.Good Luck.

Well Petroselinum sp. is Parsley in all its various forms, and quinine is one of the few things currently licenced for cramps. Medical link kinda fits the first clue too. Ummm, Northwick Park?

Good suggestions, keep them coming in. One is warmer than the rest. I'm surprised no-one has had a really indepth look at the clues yet, but there is plenty of time to solve them before the usual quiz comes back. Something for the keen-eyed.... Google

Well my very first thought was the Thames Tunnel, but unlike that RHS of this image that isn't painted so it isn't there. I haven't got a clue about the clues, but following on from what Rincew1nd said above, I associate quinine with tonic water. Tonic water I associate with gin and tonic (my mother's drink, I don't like it) and British colonial India. Following this last line of thought, it clearly isn't East India or West India Quay DLR stations. East India House, the HQ of the East India Company was on the site of the Lloyds Building, which appears to be about equidistant from Aldgate, Bank and Monument stations. Alternatively, India House, the seat of the Indian High Commission in London, is very close to Aldwych disused station[1]. The location, from what we've seen of it so far, could easily be part of a disused station. This is probably barking up the completely wrong tree of course! [1] Any photos of this location for the regular quiz would be appreciated by email in the new year

GoogleFollowing the Google link got me "The Eternal City" which is Rome,I believe....is this a clue leading us to the Roman Wall? It crosses the tube at a nummber of points but there's a big chunk of it by Tower Hill....

Beginning to get warmer - but still some way off. Try looking at the two clues again.

"Natura mirante" (To the wonderment of nature) comes up in the lyrics of Steeleye Span's Gaudete, and in (old) Catholic liturgy. Are we looking for somewhere near a Catholic church or cathedral, or another location with ecclesiastical links? I'll take a guess at Lambeth North (which is not far from St. George's Catholic Cathedral).

Right then - seasonal good wishes to all. Here is the final picture and another clue. As the main quiz doesn't come back until the New Year I can keep on providing progressively ..er.. easier clues. A bigger (super-ernomo) picture is available hereYet another craftily cryptic clue: In the Surrey twilight with Myfanwy and Mrs Wilberforce.

Mrs Wilberforce was the fantastic lady who lived in King's Cross in the brilliant Ealing comedy The Ladykillers. So King's Cross?

Might the photograph be of some part of St. Pancras - possibly inside what were St. Pancras Station Chambers?
I haven't had much success (yet) with most of the clues, but I do recall a shot in 'The Ladykillers' (the proper version, not the re-make!) which looks down the street from where Mrs Wilberforce's house is supposed to be, towards the frontage of St. Pancras.

St Pancras +1 I will go along with Mrs Wilberforce and i think there is connection via John Betjeman who is famous with St Pancras and what i assume to be poetry (In the Surrey twilight with Myfanwy).

Yes - Sir John Betjeman did pen a poem entitled 'Myfanwy'.

I'd linked Myfanwy with Betjeman and St Pancras, but I didn't think it held any substance.....
But as others also seem to be suggesting St Pancras, I'll go along with it, though I can't think whereabouts the picture would have been taken, that window doesn't ring any bells.

Betjeman was also strongly connected with the Metropolitan Edit > spellcheck.

I have a suspicion that some, at least, of the earlier clues might have something to do with Saint Pancras (the saint of the same name) - but that needs some further investigation!
