Is it true next year the TCR Northern line platforms will be closed for two years, I asked a member of staff there who said it was due to work to prevent possible flooding.
Surely if it was true it would of been advertised by now.

Lets just hope the 70's - 80's illuminated WAY OUT --> / Direction signs for other lines stay (the ones with all block capitals) stay. And lets hope the 80's station refurb station signs along the platform walls stay also, you know the big plastic ones that jut out quite a way

A major spruce up. There's talk of the mosaic tile patterns staying but being smartened up/repaired... Its all to do with the impending arrival of X-rail I guess...

Here's hoping for modern signage and removal of the hideous red/green colour scheme with its delightful inch-thick grouting. Hope the Paolozzis stay, though.

The red/green has always made me feel a bit nauseous although being an ardent minimalist I'm not to fond of the Paolozzis either really. Always reminds me of a Madrid/Barca subway does TCR.

Wait till the Evening Standard and the right wing reactionaries on its messageboards hear this.

Wait till the Evening Standard and the right wing reactionaries on its messageboards hear this. Nothing in today's edition. No doubt it'll be on their radar by Monday though! Someone on Diamond Geezer's blog commented on the fact that it'll probably up the pressure on the Victoria line from Stockwell northbound as the denizens of south London seek alternative ways to reach the west end. It's a fair point I reckon as it's a route I use regularly in the mornings.

Or, maybe they can walk from Leicester Square or Goodge Street - it's not exactly far

Whilst these closures are disruptive, I do agree with them. As to line closures, I personally think that due to upgrades, some sections of line should be shut for 3 months, rather than endless weekend closures. People will be inconvenienced at first, but they will quickly work out an alternative to reach their destination.

The updated sticker for the Northern Line has started being rolled out across the Northern Line fleet. I first saw it on thursday morning but so far there's not that many trains out with it on yet. (I'm based on the Northern Line and have only seen it twice from 10 trips). www.flickr.com/photos/mackenzieblu/5524555806/

I was on a train with the stickers this evening. I tried to remember the number, but I forgot.

I was on a Jubilee Line train yesterday that had the central london map but without the northern connecting at TCR. So I guess that's being rolled out too.

And another line map with the closures on this morning. I *think* one of the other trains in platform had one too.

The Northern Line just started to get the Central London maps with the Highbury Overground extension on it, didn't notice if this had TCR connector missing. Will check. I don't think we're gonna see another Tube but December's update will be good one with the reopening of two Tube stations and hopeful the DLR extension.

Which stations are being re-opened?

Which are closed? There's your clues ...
Blackfriars reopens late in 2011. Tottenham Court Road is only closed on the Northern for a few months, so could be the other one.
Might be others, but can't think of them off the top of my head right now.

Ohh, I thought re-opened meant abandoned stations being re-opened

By all means, Blackfriars is not abandoned!

Just occurred to me...
During this rebuild, have the platforms at Blackfriars been extended at all so in the future (when the rest have eventually been done) the southern side of the circle could run the same diagrams as the northern circle?

Just been on a train (unfortunately didn't get the unit number) with the (slightly wonky?) sticker on - methinks they should have put a start date as well as an end date!

I think most of those stations on the southern side of the circle were lengthened to take 8 cars of OPQR stock in the early/mid 60s. I can't imagine why with front and end doors cut out 8 car S stock couldn't stop at them after resignalling. Afterall I wouldn't have thought with in cab cctv its a necessity to have the cab in the platform now.
Can anyone comment on whether the platforms have been shortened since by building IMRs or such?

Doesn't look as if any work has been done to lengthen them. We will see when the protective tunnel shield is gradually removed towards the end of April into May.

The south circle side platforms were lengthened to take 8 cars of BTH stock onwards from the 1920s or earlier I think. The problem was that the front and back of the trains were in tunnel and the rear doors could only be accessed by catwalks. I would have thought that S7 stock could fit ok along this section as they are a similar length to the D stock.
