Finally got round to doing this. Does anyone else remember seeing this about ten years ago?
Stormin' Norman - James Bolam's monologue of a Tube driver's last trip, Ealing Bdy to Leytonstone on the day he retires. As far as I know, this was only broadcast once on local ITV in the London area and I haven't found it elsewhere on YouTube and the like. So this is *rare* as it's possibly the first time it's been seen since transmission - VHS to DVD and then to WMV the quality is not brilliant, but watchable. I was lucky I still had it to convert as the tape cassette became damaged after something heavy dropped on it. Now safely digitised. Filmed in 2000 on God's own line. *It's the story that's important here, not the cab mock up or continuity etc*
There really was a Stormin Norman and the story line is bang on the lunacy. The writer must of talked to staff to come up with the title for the program. My recollection of Norman was his mentally unstable obsession with the Westinghouse Brake. It was all he could talk about, which is why he was nicknamed "Normanhouse". He also had and explosive temper. One day he came into the office ranting and raving and tried to slam the door to no effect as it was on a damper. He attempted that several times before he realised a dramatic door slam to accompany his tantrum wasn't gonna happen. Long retired now along with many other characters that sadly we'll never see the like of again. I wonder how he is.
