I'm trying to locate a thread we had here some while ago about the operation and correct name of 'double-catch' turnouts. These are turnouts whose blades are independently switchable (or is one side merely sprung?), as per the example below (at Harrow-on-the-Hill) and are I think still the standard (mandatory?) installation for 'input/output middle roads'. Can someone remember what the thread was? Russ

The thread was in the quizzes section hereand the answer was that they are 'wide-to-gauge' points. I've also moved the thread to the signalling section, which is more appropriate

earls court has a set of 2 independent chairlock type points which were actually the first set installed on the combine at the time these are also wide to gauge for reference the numbers are 17w and 19w
w = points

Thanks for the quick response SB. I've a feeling there has been another thread on this one as well. Btw, perhaps the signalling section should be renamed signalling and track section? earls court has a set of 2 independent chairlock type points which were actually the first set installed on the combine at the time these are also wide to gauge Got a date for that first installation? ISTR reading something that suggested early 1950s. I'll have a look for the drawings and see when they were produced.
