Hello, I am now living at Northwick Park for university, so I have the Met on my doorstep! I just have a question regarding Finchley road... Were the two jubilee line roads originally Met bays, so they could run the original Stanmore branch??? Or was the station rebuilt???
Many thanks
James

AFAIK the station was rebuilt in 1930s. Before that fast lines were together in place of current southbound ones and all 4 Met roads merged into current two south of Finchley Road (in the area where Jubilee tunnels surface).

I think it's the case that, prior to the construction of the Bakerloo (now Jubilee) line, there were two Metropolitan line tracks on what is now the northbound formation, with the two main-line tracks alongside, where they are at the moment. I think that, when the LU formation was four-tracked, the additional tracks were added on what is now the southbound formation. Finchley Road station was rebuilt to accommodate the new line. However, I'm happy to be corrected on any of the above!

Was Finchley Road not formed from to separate platforms? It may have been changed to an island some time after, and they changed again when the toy trains turned up ;D
