Why were the armrests removed from the 1972 mk2 stock operating the bakerloo? their definitely not as comfortable now

I believe that some of the mentally challenged took to stomping on the arm rests and breaking them. The cost of repairs became too much.

There were similar issues with D stock before refurbisment. The trouble is if you make the armrest too stiff when someone jumps on it, it breaks the casting in the seat back. For the old D stock ones we did a few experiments in uncontrolled bending to determine the optimum size of hole to drill in the support so that it was as strong as possible without causing the casting to fail.
