Why was the H&C hacked off and branded as such, and no longer as the Barking Met to DRmen? It just denies the DR's title of being the then-only line to intersect all other lines...

I believe it was split to make it easier for customers/passengers to see where the train is going. At say Liverpool Street, compare "Met to Aldgate" and "Met to Barking", to "Met to Aldgate" and "H and C to Barking". People may not know where BArking is, but they know the H+C goes to Whitechapel which is where they want to go. Then you can ask why the Distict isn't split...

True, but the Met and DR are railways... ;D Then you can ask why the Distict isn't split... Why isn't the DR split? Actually, why wasn't the Wimbleware tacked onto the Circle/H&C?

Why was the H&C hacked off and branded as such, and no longer as the Barking Met to DRmen? w.e.f. 15/5/1989. On the surface, it was only a rebranding of the old Met No 1 section. Must admit, I still think of Hammersmith (H&C) as being Hammersmith (Met)!

Yes, and I still call (as do many) the Met north of Baker Street, The Mainline. Sometimes I even call it the extension line!!

Us really old 'uns still remember it being also called "The Wood Line" - (Baker Street & St. John's Wood Railway".
