Note that it was hoped that some form of signalling could be devised so that trains could be run underground without drivers!

This was at South Kensington what was the proposed deep level District? Yes and these days walked by thousands of passengers using the Piccadilly line. When I worked in the Earls Court signal school in the mid 1980s I had occasion to clear out some old lockers and came across a few photos of the South Kensington signal school. Of course the school relocated from Earls Court to Acton Works and has since relocated from one side of Acton Works to the other.

Take a look at p218-220 of London's Lost Tube Schemes. This covers the layout of South Kensington, and includes an isometric diagram of what was built, and what was planned.
