Unusual working on Chiltern today, Birmingham trains are being diverted down the met, calling at Aylesbury, Amersham and Marylebone.
They don't normally stop at Amersham when diverted do they?
I went to Princes Risborough today on one of said trains, it was pretty handy.

What was the route they were using? Was it via Quainton and Calvert? Or reversing via Monks R'Boro?

Reversing at Aylesbury, then again at Princes Risborough.

Although it would have been awesome if it went via Quainton.
Oops, double post.

That's the plan in a few years. There is a new spur being built so Chiltern Trains can run to Oxford via Quainton and Bicester North.

Thought so.
Some people were a bit misinformed, a couple of people got on a Birmingham train and when the driver made an announcement stating that the next stop is Aylesbury they promptly dived off and did a barrel roll.
No announcements on the station at Amersham.

When the Tesco Tunnel at Gerrard's Cross collapsed in 2005, most, if not all, trains to/from Birmingham called at Aylesbury.

That's the plan in a few years. There is a new spur being built so Chiltern Trains can run to Oxford via Quainton and Bicester North. I think you're confusing two projects here. The spur being built at at Bicester as part of the "Evergreen 3" project will allow trains from Oxford to reach Marylebone via Princes Risborough. A separate "East West" project involves re-opening Aylesbury - Quainton- Calvert - Bletchley, and also Bicester - Calvert which will allow Aylesbury/Oxford-Bletchley-Milton Keynes/Bedford services, As far as I am aware tyhere are no plans for the S-W curve at Calvert which would be needed for direct Aylesbury Oxford services to run, although reversal at Calvert would be possible (as is already done for freight services)

The diversions this weekend are in relation to the Evergreen 3 project (at least that is what the timetable is headed as.)
Not the first weekend they have operated it, and certainly won't be the last, except that we tend to only get the notice around Thursday of the week preceding the weekend it will operate. Hopefully those using Chiltern services get a little more notice.
Most other times the "Birminghams" haven't stopped at Amersham, but for some reason this time they are.

Your quite right. I don't know whats happening re the Bicester-Bletchley Line however. It is a shame the line is not used properly. I would think that Chiltern and XCountry would make good use of the line, along with freight traffic too.

The are no services south of Banbury on the Chiltern Main Line this weekend (Brum trains going to Oxford instead), thus everyone south of Banbury will be using the Aylesbury line to get to London. Everyone north of Risborough will go to Aylesbury while Wycombe and Beaconsfield passengers will go to Amersham or Great Missenden to get their express train to London. So thats why the fasts to Aylesbury have intermediate stops at Amersham and Great Missenden this weekend.

Hopefully those using Chiltern services get a little more notice. Sadly not - the ITPS problems that Network Rail have been facing mean that us users get notice that there will be diversions but we don't know what the timetable is until quite close to the day. In the past the timetable was released the day before!!

Looking at the arrangements for next weekend 6/7 November, the diverted trains are stopping at Amersham. Of course they non-stop Harrow.
