Was in the library the other day (as an aside they've installed a Starbucks in it - genius!) and came across 'The Story of London's Underground'. Interesting passage which I can only half remember, but it stated a number of aspirational extensions which were considered important. Interestingly had they gone ahead they would involved South London; providing a kind of mirror to the next decades massive programme in North London.
In no order:
Northern line south to Brixton and Streatham Bakerloo line south to Camberwell, Dulwich and Rushey Green Central line to Hackney and Woodford A New tube from Kingsbury via Cricklewood, Edgware Road, Victoria, Oval and Peckham to Lewisham.
Now no doubt not much planning went into these, perhaps at most a line on a map, and I assume most of these would have followed established throughfares.
However I can't quite see an obvious one between Dulwich and Rushey Green, which apparently is by Catford, and I can only presume that between Peckham and Lewisham the route would have gone to where Goldsmiths College is then turned south to follow Lewisham Way.
Don't suppose anyone could provide any more information or confirmation? For anyone that has the book its on page 98.
Thanks in advance!

You might like to request from your library "London's Lost Tube Schemes" by Antony Badsey-Ellis, Capital Transport 2005 ISBN 185414 293 3. At a slightly earlier period than the 1920, this lists the City & Crystal Palace Railway, the City & North East Suburban Railway, the City, Wandsworth & Wimbledon Railway, the Edgware Road & Victoria Railway, the Kings Cross, Charing Cross and Waterloo Railway, the London, Walthamstow & Epping Forest Railway, the North and South London Railway and many many more!

I actually have a copy on my book shelf with a bookmark on the 'Syndicates' explanation ;D ;D
Its just a damn shame that there isnt a book that follows its theme from the time that it stops.

As you can probably imagine, the amount of work involved in researching a book like 'Lost Tube Schemes' was considerable - about four years. A follow-on is under consideration, but only on the 'tentative' pile at present (there's other stuff in the queue ahead of it).
