At Finsbury Park, both LU lines serving the station also serve the nearby NR terminal, Kings Cross. At Ealing Broadway, neither LU line serving the station serve the nearby NR terminal, Paddington. Wasn't convenient interchange considered important in pre-LPTB days?

If you want to get from Ealing Broadway to Paddington, travel by National Rail. The intention of the Underground station at Ealing Broadway was to provide convenient interchange for GWR passengers wanting to get to central or southern parts of London.

So you're saying there's no easy LU link Ealing Bdwy > Paddington because there's a good NR link; are you implying that Finsbury Pk > KX has a good LU link due to poor NR interlink?

I'm struggling to word it very well, but I suspect it's a case of the 'bigger picture'.

The Piccadilly link between Finsbury Park and Kings Cross arose because the Piccadilly was originally intended as part of a plan to take pressure off the congested lines between Finsbury Park and Kings Cross. The Northern City was part of the same plan, whereby suburban trains would be diverted to Moorgate, with the Piccadilly providing an alternative link to the West End. When the Victoria line was built, the route was to link Victoria with Euston and Kings Cross, and then go towards Walthamstow. Finsbury Park is a major traffic interchange, so it made sense to provide a Vic station there. As is the case with most of the UK rail network, the present London train services are the result of unplanned ad hoc decisions made by a variety of competing companies. You have to read a detailed history to follow what went on.

When Crossrail comes there will be a direct link, and Crossrail will be fully integrated with LU I believe.
