Hi everyone,
I have a request regarding old digital wall clocks. These have been removed from many Northern Line plattforms recently e.g. Leicester Square and Warren Street. I wonder if someone has an idea how to get hold of one or two of these clocks. I think they would make a nice feature in my living room. And it would be definitely a shame to see them going to the scrap yard.
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards,
Henning

Best Regards, Henning I'm not sure you'd be able to get hold of them but if you did you'd need an impulse source to drive them! AFAIK they ran on clock pulses like the vast majority of LU clocks.

Impulse source? Nothing you couldn't mash up with a DS1307 (for accuracy) and a PICAXE...

I think I've got a Gent's master clock lurking around somewhere..... *tries to remember where exactly in which country it could be* If you're interested in clocks a contact from my earlier life at GPO/PO has a website on GPO clocks at www.alphacrocy.ifastnet.com/There is some documentation on Gent clocks there! The GPO/PO and LT/LU used the same basic series and parallel fed clock chains run from master clocks outputting various pulses. LT/LU had a nmuber of diverse systems operating on half minute and one minute impulses and hourly sync with a variety of clock types. Of course these days radio sync is replacing everything with standalone station clock distribution systems via a network of RS485 LU time repeaters. However, AFAIK all the old systems remain extant, until the programme machines are gone the IMRs with PMCs will still be connected to the half minute impulses from Leicester Square clock room. Even if radio sync master clocks are fitted at all sites I'd expect that the existing pendulum master clock chain would remain in service as a backup at least in the short term as tends to be the LU habit.

I remember being seriously annoyed when the clock on the south end wall of the NB Bakerloo platform at OXO was removed (and never put back) during a refurb.

I haven't had the chance to examine the site properly yet - looks as if it might be an enjoyable read. However - I'd better warn people that you might get a pop-up advertising something. Mine was the rather charming and sybaritic offer of 'Find h**ny s**g buddies in Tiverton'. Tiverton, really! Wonder if it was Devon, Ontario or Cheshire? EDIT: Oh! Those relay sounds bring back memories - although we only used the 30 second exchange pulse, and didn't have a Hipp Toggle either.

I asked my on-line dictionary to look up sybaritic. It thought about it for a few seconds and then gave me a blank white page. It's never done that before.

Your dictionary obviously didn't want to cause offence. You sure it wasn't made by the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation? ;D

Have you found this yet? www.alphacrocy.ifastnet.com/pages/fig33.htmlAs for the annoying ads, there is a trial version ad free site here gpoclocksystems.webfreehosting.net/But it is experimental and may not work 100% !

Thanks for your replies so far. I actually found a picture: . A station assistant told me today that this clock might end up in the transport museum. Is that likely for all of them? Regards, Henning

I suspect an example of each type will end up in the Museum collection, but this is a guess and by no means an official statement.
