Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. I did look. Just wondering how the physical size of the new stock compares with the size of the stock it is replacing. I've always thought that a D78 and an A60 would have looked more at home side by side at Uxbridge than a tiny 73TS and an A60 does

Each car is approximately the width of C stock and the length and height of A stock

S8 is about the length of A stock, but the S7 will be about 25m longer than the C stock? Or did I misinform someone yesterday wrt the platform lengthening?

Tucked away in other posts are: All S Stock cars are 2920mm over the doors (the widest part). Which is the same as C Stock. D Stock cars are 2840mm wide. S Stock DM car 18130mm over couplers, 17430mm body. S Stock M1, M2, MS cars 15434mm body. S8 = 133.68m A8 = 131.47m = -2.21m S7 = 117.45m D6 = 110.90m = -6.55m (single-ended only) C6 = 94.36m = -23.09m

That's a fair distance for the D stock, but massive for the C stock, selective door close will not cover that. Platform lengthening will also be extreme to match 20 odd metres!!

Glad this has come up again; it really is tucked deeply in the forum in one of the many 'S' stock threads.
An S stock DM is about 57'-2", and an NDM is about 50'-7" in imperial.
