I see work has started on clearing the site of the former Travis Perkins builders merchants in Neptune Road, Harrow, to make way for flats and a supermarket..
The railway interest here is that the main building on the site is the former Metropolitan Railway Harrow-on-the-Hill goods shed, still very recognisable as such. It was still intact when I walked past over Roxborough Bridge this afternoon - but probably not for much longer.

Yes, very sad the site is being flattened. I was hoping that the goods shed was listed but my collegue at work said no. It is also a shame we won't be involved with the construction but thats another story......

That's the last one then.
At least I managed to get full measurements, and a lot of photos, of the Wendover one before that was pulled down. (even if it did mean having to convince the police I wasn't a drug dealer waiting for some clients!)

One thing that might hearten Met. modellers is that the Met. itself was (almost) pathologically obsessive about making drawings of everything!

The shed has been demolished over the last 2 days. No way! That's really bad news. I remember when a similar building at West Hampstead was demolished and thought that was a disappointment. So there was me thinking at least the one at Harrow was ok, but obviouly not...Gutted to hear that. There is a perfect photograph of it, taken by CRL Coles in 1933 in the book 'Railways Through the Chilterns', page 54. The yard is full of stock, open bodied coal wagons hauled by steam...
