Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of catching the 22:43 from West Hampstead to Richmond. (Leading Coach 38117) The train had no destination displayed, and also the internal display was blank, and the announcer was also off. When we approached Brondesbury, the (female) guard (working from rear cab) announced "This is the London Underground service to Richmond... ;D Furthermore, the system seemed to kick back in when we got to Gunnersbury, and worked fine upon arrival at Richmond.

Blame the onboard computer and the GPS.. I had one yesterday at Willesden that had packed up at Gospel Oak.. Tried entering various codes but nothing. In the end waited until I popped the doors at Shepherds Bush and re-entered code and all came back to life.. Some times the computer looses the plot so rather than allow the onboard information system to announce odds and ends we do switch it off until we can fix it.

We get the same problem over on the ELL, half way through a trip the whole PIS will just cut out and stop working and get a fault message on the TCMS. When it happens sometimes re-entering the route code will sort it out otherwise we have to reboot the whole train which we can't do as it knocks out the DOO cameras for 15 minutes and there isn't enough turn around time in our diagrams.
Its a joy driving these 378's, you never know what else can go wrong!!

Recently I got on a 378 at Clapham Junction. Before it left, it announced "this is the London Overground service to Clapham Junction. The next station is Shepherds Bush".
