313s, when introduced, wer quite whizzy. i actually designed a T shirt for the kings Cross crews who worked them, 313 Squadron!
working a 31+6 on a Cambridge train one evening, we left Finsbury Park at the same time as a 313. we were non-stop, he was all stops. He beat us to Potters Bar!
Passed through Brighton at the weekend, lots of 313s there on the Seaford services in pretty colours.

I prefer the 313's to the cattlestars but both have their advantages. I will miss the 313's, loads of character, nice motor sound, opening windows, the old blue nse seating moquette!, and the fact there were loads of seats which were fairly comfortable. I suppose it's just years of traveling on them alot they've just grown on me . Especially those memories standing at willesden junction at 11 o clock on a winters night waiting to go home and along comes a 313 with it's comfy seats and underseat heating ah the good old days (lol nostalgia already this is 2009 were talking about! )

Well it seems that i wont have my claim to fame. On looking through my roster i was to be the rostered Guard on this last train. However fate being what it is meant that i am also rostered Annual Leave and my wife has booked a week in Rome. So i wont even be in the country when the last 313 trundles across the North London Line

Surely it is a normal scheduled last train which, on this occasion, instead of tipping everyone out at Camden Road, is simply continuing in service via Queens Park to the same place it would be going anyway - Willesden Junction LL bay.

Seems like the 313 won't be on that circuit at all so it won't be running around on the 17th late in the day...

Trouble is no idea where they'll be on any given day! Wait at Willesden Junction I guess and hope. Is next week the last one of 313 operation?

I don't see why it's so difficult for them to make their mind up. Just pick a diagram, and stick to it!

Only two I believe on permanent standby. There was one out today on the NLL and on Monday (the first day of the LUL strike) they had one on the DC. Martin

on Monday (the first day of the LUL strike) they had one on the DC. There was one out on the DC lines on Sunday as well - I missed it by seconds southbound at Carpenders Park

On the main day of the LU strike they ran extra trains in the peak on the DC lines between Euston and Harrow (reversing in the sidings at H&W). They did this before during the previous LU strike.
Anyway, one of these supplementary trains was a 313. That may well have been my last trip on one on the LO routes. Hadn't been on one for a while, and enjoyed being able to look out of the window properly for a change.

I disagree. 313s are slow to accelerate, uncomfortable, clunky, noisy and hot. Maybe that was the standard for the 1970s when they were first designed but not for the 21st Century. I think we need to contrast with Intercity 125s. Of the same era, Intercity125s are classics by comparison in terms of quality, durability and technology (of the time). Weren't they slow to accelerate due to a restriction slapped on them on the NLL (cheapo electrification springs to mind). Once under the 25Kv, they're just as fast off the mark as their class 315 sisters. Not sure how the slightly more higher quality Southern region 3rd rail affects their acceleration, but with 750v and higher amps, could well make it better. They were clunky because they have DC traction equipment compared to AC traction equipment. Normal. Hot, yes. Those carriage thermostats must have started to play up somewhat. I shall miss them. Shame one never made it into LOROL livery.

They would have looked rather smart in the LOROL livery! I'll miss being able to look out of the window properly and the nice sound of the motors and the start up!

As someone who had to travel on NLL a lot this year - good riddance! 313s won't be missed - they might hold some sentimental value for some, but for everyday commute they were horrible.

I never had to commute on them, but I changed a Gsopel Oak from a packed 150 (including 3+2 seating like the 313s had) to a Packed 378. The latter was a very significantly more pleasant journey as it was possible to move inside the cars without decapitating people with my heavy rucksack and I was not similarly mauled by others bags when they left the train.

313123 was out and about today. Managed to get a drive of it on the 1842 to Clapham Jct & back the tucked it up for the night in the tmd.

Presumably the last two have just faded out without ceremony, then? Still, no room for sentimentality on the thrusting modern railway, eh?

Presumably the 378s have much better acceleration/braking/top speeds than the 313s. Do you lot think there's any chance of better timetables coming in now there's a homogeneous fleet as the 313s are gone?
I'm not imagining anything too dramatic like an increase in frequency, but things being re-timed to be more reliable and perhaps arriving at certain stations a minute or two earlier and leaving a minute or two longer for better connections (Harrow & Wealdstone, I'm looking at you!).

They need to run at 4tph on the DC line. There's nothing more depressing than missing a train and then waiting 20 mins Of course this has to gel in with the entry into Euston and the Bakerloo, but I'm sure it can be done.

There's no problem with the signalling for running more than 3 LO tph, after all trains (not in passenger service nor every hour) ran during the class 378 commissioning and during the de-icing season. Timetabling them in between the peak Bakerloo trains is more of a problem.

As for depressing, try just missing a train and then waiting two hours or more for the next one. Try missing a train and then waiting a week for the next one! And even then you can only go one direction, depending on the season; Denton:

So is that definitely it for the 313's on LO then, or can we still expect some form of proper send off?
