Hi,
Does anyone on this forum have experience in modelling directly from photos?
I'd be particularly interested in anyone that's used photogamertic(?) techniques to obtain specfic dimensional information. (My understanding is that such techniques ARE used by some modellers, as well as by those doing full proper engineering surveys)

Yes I model from photos however more in order to get a general a general impression of what a building or item of rolling stock looks like. I never scale from a photograph as I think this in fraught with a lot of potential problems. Drawings for rolling stock can usually be found if you either make a request for assistance on this forum or on one of the specific model rail forums.
If you are modelling the Underground, this forum is your best first call as there are number of Undergound modellers, including myself that regularly visit and post here that will try and assist if we can.
I hope this helps.

I think you probably meant to post that in the modelling/simulations section?

I model from photos, but I don't use the photo dimensions. I do get a feel for the model by looking at photos however. Here's my latest offering.... a 1913 stock motor car. www.radleymodels.com/page/new_all_gauges
