Seems to me that any railway related noise makes residents irate...

Seems an odd place to live...if you dont want noise! Anyone know if there were complaints when the LU depot was there, admittedly it was a lot smaller.

In my very cynical opinion, people will always moan or complain, whether a station is there or not. Someone will always find something to complain about!

The LU depot was on the New Cross branch, not where the new depot is now just north of New Cross Gate and like you say, was much, much smaller so I wouldn't have thought the people who are complaining now could hear the noise from the old depot.

I once went to a party at a friend's house, which backed onto the WLL and was built in the Edwardian era.His next-door neighbour started banging on about the freight trains that went past from time-to-time.I pointed out that the alternative was hundreds of lorries on the road, and that not only was the line there when she moved in,but also was there before her house was built.Strangely, she wasn't pleased by my answer....

It must be the increase in property prices associated with living close to a ELLX station that has begun to annoy NCG residents let alone the improved ride and transport facilities... Must say I would be most indignant!

I doubt it's squeaky wheels. It's probably just the sound that electrostars make when they're accelerating.

Actually, on the two occasions I've used the ELLX on northbound services coming from Crystal Palace or West Croydon, I have noticed that immediately after the flyover at NCG, the wheels tend to grind against the rails as they go round a fairly sharp bend... maybe the squeaking sounds.
