A post made to uk.railway in 2002 describes a rare move at Baker Street where an eastbound train from Finchley Road headed for Aldgate can cross over to the westbound (down) line, call at platform 2, run wrong-line across Baker Street Junction onto the Inner Rail and then use the trailing crossover to regain the Outer Rail.
Just how rare is this move?

Just how rare is this move? Quite rare. It generally only happens if platform three is unavailable for some reason. In the three years I've been in the SCC at Baker St I've only seen it done three or four times.

It used to be a regular move in the days (or nights when C stock stabled at Neasden overnight. In the morning when the C stock returned, 2 of them were booked quite close together, with one booked via pfm 3, the other via pfm 2. This would happen almost every morning IIRC.

Have a feeling that this is probably one of those 'old' moves left over from the days of loco-hauled Met trains when the loco had to uncouple, shunt, and then run around the train.
It still gets used from time to time, like when a train has been reversed in pfm 3 because of problems in the city that then clear-up, or when there's a stalled train in pfms 1 or 4. A useful signalled move to keep the wheels turning when things are not running as they should.

For some reason only just noticed this thread.
It was used by me last Tuesday (12th) during getting the service back together following a points failure at Baker Street. That was, as has been mentioned, because I had quite a few trains reversing at Baker Street to get them right.
I had actually slightly mis-calculated the platform to train ratio, telling the controller "Yeah we can do it" - we try to please. Got away with it though thanks to this move.
Although I informed the station, I didn't hear any PAs, so wonder how many Uxbridge punters arrived at Great Portland Street ;D
