I see the noisy staff at Sydenham have been told to turn down the volume: www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23868322-train-guard-with-megaphone-ordered-to-pipe-down-as-residents-complain-hes-waking-them-up.doTFL's response to the paper beggars belief though "Transport bosses apologised to the residents but said the announcements were needed following the completion of the £1billion line extension in May. A spokesman said: "Not all passengers are familiar with the station, which now offers a Tube-like service. "It is important that announcements can be heard over incoming and outgoing trains." Do they shout mind the doors as the train is arriving then? Although they say it's now offering a tube-like service, that station has been served by sliding door trains for years. Why is TFL's attitude to the general public, whether it's to do with tubes, overground, buses or roads so aggressive, patronising and condescending? However, I do think it was unfair to personalise the article on this man when it should have been directed at TFL

When LO first replaced Silverlink, there were megaphone men (one for each platform) at Highbury & Islington. In addition to sundry announcements, one of them liked to walk menacingly along the edge of the EB platform policing the yellow line.
