Whilst changing at around 8pm yesterday at Tottenham Court Road, I am quite sure I heard twice, "Mind the gap between the train and the platform" being read out by a kid?
Is there something wrong with my hearing or did this really happen?

You'll get a message about standing on the correct side of the escalator too.
The noticable thing is you stopped and paid attention, rather than switching off to the usual deluge of PA's.

What is happening ? Surely the station control room hasn't been hijacked by a crack team of 7 year old tube fantatics?

At some stations the PA's are so loud and screechy, you have no option but to hear them!

Same this morning. Have the station staff been at the Helium again?
Just making less announcements would be favourite.

Has anyone heard them at other stations? Or just this one? I quite like the announcements, and as long as they are clear, it might be a nice idea to have different voices at different stations At some stations the PA's are so loud and screechy, you have no option but to hear them! There was an article about that yesterday, regarding megaphone announcements on the LO.

As I have said on this forum many a time, control rooms should be putting out a service update message every 4-6 minutes for the major stations and every 6-10 minutes for the busy ones, every 10 minutes at the quieter stations is sufficient. Engineering and security messages should be hourly [half hourly at the major stations. Some staff ignore these guidelines due to the fact that they cant be bothered to look it up on the intranet, or they love the sound of their own voice. Playing stand behind the yellow line, dropping litter etc should be a one off ad hoc PA, but some staff routinely put these things out on a loop, and it drives me bonkers!!!!!!!!!

As to this bloke on LO, maybe he is a bit enthusiastic. He is however only putting out the announcements he is being told to put out. As with all things in life, common sense and discretion are powerful tools. It is a shame very few people use it.

A few months ago I was hearing a lady at Oxford Circus with a rather sultry voice that was definitely pleasant. On the negative side, I don't see the sense in "Stand behind the yellow line" announcements when the train is actually sitting in the platform.

I'd rather they cut out the update messages except for mentioning defective stuff - "good service" sounds like either stating the obvious or a cruel joke when you are waiting ages for a train.
As to voices, maybe we should have guest voices every now and then... Tom Baker anyone?

There was a geezer at Bank (Central Line) I think, although it may have been Liverpool Street, around 30 years ago who used to sing. It put a smile on a lot of otherwise dour faces.

I vote for Nigella Lawson... "This is not a yellow line, this is a London Underground DDA compliant yellow line, so please keep behind it..." 50% of the population would never have kept behind it so quickly ever before....

I'd love to hear Stephen Fry do a set of announcements, he's got a wonderful voice and people might just listen to him

Brian Blessed. With or without a megaphone, doesnt make a difference.
