Seen lots of wartime pics but this is the first one I've seen showing shelterers actually bedding on the tracks.

Nothing surprising about it. The Aldwych branch was closed, and the juice was disconnected. There are other pictures showing hammocks slung between the rails over the anti-suicide pit. Later on in its life as a shelter spare sleepers were placed over the tracks to make a better floor, and to reduce the distance between the tracks and the platform surface. After the war it was found that the sleepers had warped and Westminster Council (who 'owned' and ran the shelter) had to reimburse the LPTB for them.

As can be seen in the picture. The juice wasn't merely 'disconnected', it was removed altogether!
