Hello everyone. So it was announced that Bond Street is getting a revamp in time for Crossrail in 2017. [a href="http://london-underground.blogspot.com/ Source"]http://london-underground.blogspot.com/ Source[/a] IMO It breaks the TfL coroporate standards, What I particular find worrying is no outside roundel can be seen, nor the white on blue bar. Your opinions?

Signage will no doubt reflect corporate branding. More worrying is the cheap-looking utilititarian 1960's/70's modernist styling. It's grey and it looks like it contains a lot of concrete.

Sorry, the link is london-underground.blogspot.com/Sorry about the other links. I really don't like the 'artists impression'. As mikebuzz says, it just looks like those prefab buildings they put up after the war. (Well, by the colourings. Just looks so bland)

Is that the gateline right on the street? Where's the ticketing area?

If I google "Crossrail Bond Street" the same image comes up. I think they're just using the render for the Crossrail station because there aren't any for the Tube station.

I guess Bond Street will be ready for it by 2017! I saw the tail end of the works on the previous revamp at the end of the 1970s for the Jubilee line. In those days I had not long joined telephones installation at Earl's Court and had to fit the phones in the new Bond Street substation area. As the CrossRail enabling works surveyor for the LU sites from Paddington to Liverpool Street in the mid 1990s I was due to survey the impacted areas at Bond Street as the last site on my list and it was the only one that I didn't survey as the project was shelved indefinitely the week that I was supposed to begin surveying the affected engineering assets and cabling. As for the artist's impression of the new entrance, it doesn't look dissimilar to other older sites really such as Moorgate or Mansion House which would also look bland without the blue frieze and roundels at the entrances. Look again at the impression and compare it perhaps to the Westminster entrance opposite HOP. I think when the station is updated/modernised/rebuilt there'll be no doubt that it is an entrance to the Underground.

No surprises there then, since TFL took over and Hijacked one of the best known brand icons in the world (the roundel) they have been busy applying to everything from lamposts to life preservers. The roundel was always LONDON TRANSPORT and that meant trains and buses not poxy riverboats, black cabs and "street management". The fact the roundel doesnt appear on this artists impression is just another example of TFL dumbing down what was once a symbol of Britain. Diversity stinks! Ill get off my soapbox now!

Similarly, the images of Whitechapel CrossRail show non-TfL lettering- it's just the designers doing the drawings the finishing touches will be done later. tinyurl.com/36runc5

The details on the TfL Project page are much better. Including a video (I can't view it, unfortunately) of the proposed station, and artists impressions that fit in much better with the corporate image. London Reconnections also has quite a good post on it.

Nice video. But no PED on the Jubbly platform surprises me.

What's with all the decorator white? Are they building a station or a clinic?

I appreciate all-white isn't to everyone's taste but its better than some garish "fashionable" design that looks horribly dated 10 years after the refurb is complete (look at Tottenham Court Road or Green Park Jubilee.) All-white is timeless.

Seems to be a long way from the entrance to the platforms - assume it is unavoidable, but not good.

“Why need a ticketing area, everyone's got an Oyster!” – rincew1nd Where are you going to go when you find that your Oyster hasn’t got enough credit on it?
“Is that the gateline right on the street?” – plymothian. It would appear so, that’s going to be lovely come winter.
Edwin – would imagine Crossrail and Tube will be within then same station.
Robert – Is the Jubbly platform straight as I was told that you can’t put PEDs on a curved platform when I worked with the JLE stations opening team.
Southernrover – you seem somewhat confused. If only buses and tubes should be allowed to use the roundel how can it be it a symbol of Britain? In marketing terms this was a smart idea; a instantly recognised and established brand would indicate TfL’s involvement; you see the roundel and you know it operates under local government supervision. So what has any of this got to do with diversity or are you just regurgitating the Daily Mail? Calm down, dear.

Westminster Jubilee line has a slight curve, and has PEDs...so the platform doesn't have to be straight surely?

Can only tell you what I was told by the JLE people. One thought is how long would it take to install and bring PEDs into service? Obviously you’d have to suspend service while it was done and if you couldn’t do it in a weekend then you’d have to non-stop till the job was completed.

Install PEDs AND have them working in a weekend? My god if things were installed and put into service that quick on LU, the whole system would be in a [glow=blue,2,300]right old mess[/glow]....

They had all the time they wanted and more to do it on the JLE as they weren’t running a service. Anyway with current political climate I suspect we are only going to get essential work done, PEDs weren’t considered necessary for the JLE open section stations like Canning Town and West Ham so I doubt if there are any plans to retro-fit them anywhere on the Combine.

Why bother installing a piece of unnecessary inflexible heavy infrastructure? Its only something that complicates matters. The Fleet line stations are built to 8 car standard instead of 7 long like the JLE incidently.

The update on Bond St Station (spring 2009) www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/corporate/Bond-Street-newsletter-Spring-2010.pdfsuggests there will be a new ticket hall also at the new entrance. The increased number of passageways are good as it means air will be able to flow, cooling the station. If the station is cooler, and without PEDs it means the surrounding tunnels should cool a little too meaning a more comfy ride for passengers. As an aside, once Crossrail is complete, it should help cool Bond St, TCR and Liverpool St for the Central by improving air and passenger flows. This will largely be down to new entrances. No small thing on the red (hot) line. Coming out of Bond St in evening peak from JL to surface is currently a nightmare so anything that can improve passenger flow would be much welcome too! As for the feel and design, it's much like the new entrances and passageways at Kings X. That's a much improved station since it has been re-vamped and this station managed to retained a strong LU feel to it.
