Can anyone provide a date from when Aldgate had four platforms? Photos show that this was done by the very early 1900s, but when the station opened in 1876 it had just two platforms.
The four platform layout had the through roads in the centre (platforms 2 and 3) and the terminating tracks outside. A date for when the tracks were rearranged to their current layout would also be appreciated. None of my usual sources have provided any details on this...

Reading Alan Jackson's 'London's Metropolitan Railway' my understanding of his description of Aldgate station when it opened was that it had four platforms from the start. However the way he phrased it may be misleading. What he says is: I interpret this to mean that the station was provided with two island platforms giving a total of four platform faces, as now.
