[This may be answered elsewhere, but I could not find it.] I was just watchng the 225 Studios new ELL cab ride DVD. The audio has a number of points south of New Cross Gate where a loud "Whut-whut-whut" signal sounds (378 stock). I don't think I have heard it before. Any information on this appreciated. Or point me to another reference. Thanks!

The "Whut-whut-whut" sound you're describing is where the GSM-R has lost the signal. GSM-R is not yet implemented south of New Cross Gate. We nickname the sound as a fart in a bath lol.

This information is much appreciated and, coming from a 378 driver, obviously the exact answer with all the details. Thanks! Of course now, when I watch the rest of the DVD I will now always think FIAB when I hear the sound.

We don't get that on the D.C. or the N.L.L. or the W.L.L. as Bombardier isolate it. ;-)

When they implement GSM-R on the rest of the lines, you'll have the enjoyment of more sounds in the cab to deal with! Wait until you hear the alarm that sounds if you've left the DSD pedal off with the train in forward or reverse. Sounds like a nuclear bomb is about to hit!
